LONGMONT, COLORADO (October 10, 2013) – When Boulder-based Elevations Credit Union announced it would match up to $100,000 in donations to area flood victims, Keller Williams Realty associates responded enthusiastically. In fact, when the Elevations Foundation quickly reached its goal, KW Cares, a charitable 501(c)(3) organization funded by Keller Williams agents, decided to double the match.
On Thursday, during Rocky Mountain Flood Relief Day, a volunteer disaster recovery initiative organized by Keller Williams agents, Keller Williams President Mary Tennant presented a $100,000 check to Dennis Paul, assistant vice president of business and community development for Elevations Credit Union and vice chair of Elevations Foundation. The KW Cares donations brought the total raised from the challenge grant to more than $350,000.
“We are excited about the opportunity to leverage our charitable dollars to make an even bigger impact on the communities we serve,” Tennant said. “This is an inspiring example of citizens coming together to take care of our neighbors in need.”
“Everything changed when Keller Williams came to the table,” Paul said. “We are grateful for the support of KW Cares, which allows us to distribute critically needed funds to our local partners to provide temporary housing for individuals and families displaced by the disaster.”
The Elevations Foundation is distributing funds through three local partners: Foothills United Way, Boulder County Community Services, and the United Way of Larimer County.
In addition to contributing financially, Keller Williams associates in Colorado volunteered their labor. They organized Rocky Mountain Relief, a daylong community service initiative to help the communities hardest hit by recent flooding. More than 400 real estate agents from across the state gathered in Longmont, where the need was greatest and they could make the biggest impact as a volunteer force. They shoveled mud, cleared debris, hauled trash, and helped clean up businesses, homes and parks.
“We wanted to help our friends and neighbors in Colorado recover from this natural disaster and start to rebuild their lives,” said Brenda Benson, regional director for Colorado. “This was an opportunity to channel the amazing culture we have and give back to the communities we are so privileged to serve. We?re thankful for the passion, generosity, and support of everyone who took part today.”
